Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Guelph, Ontario, Canada
As a Registered Social Worker, graduating from the Schools of Social Work of McMaster University (1974) and Wilfrid Laurier University (1979), I hold extensive experience of over 35 years working with individuals, families and groups. Initially assisting persons with developmental disabilities, my career evolved to a general psychiatry practice at Homewood Health Centre, Guelph, Ontario. I specialized in eating disorders treatment, holding the positions of clinical Social Worker and Program Co-ordinator of the Eating Disorders Program, for a total of 25 years.
In 2013, I was honoured to receive the Guelph YMCA/YWCA Women of Distinction Award, specifically for my involvement in the field of Eating Disorders. In addition to instituting The Waterloo – Wellington Eating Disorders Coalition, I am also a founding member of community organizations including the Guelph chapters of The Mood Disorders Association of Ontario, Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, and Child Find, Ontario.
My part-time practice with The Wellness Collaborative includes Individual, Family and Group therapies, specifically serving adults and adolescents struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, and concurrent issues. Treatment is client-centred, with a variety of therapeutic approaches adapted to individual client needs. Assisting clients to develop the motivation necessary to work toward recovery, preventing relapse, and recovery maintenance are included in the scope of my professional practice, as is the involvement and support of family/significant others. Therapy addressing body image concerns of all ages (including middle-age and beyond!) is an integral (and passionate!) part of my work in this field.
I am confident that in our time together, we can work toward a goal of creating a “Life Worth Living”!
As a member of both the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and The Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), treatment may be covered by the health benefits of insurance companies. Social Work services are tax deductible.
Health Professional and Self referrals are welcomed. The fee for Individual, Couple and Family Counselling sessions is $100 per hour long session. Please discuss extended health care benefits with your health insurance provider, as many health benefit plans cover services provided by a therapist with Master of Social Work accreditation. Payment is required at the time of each counselling session, either by cash, cheque or e-transfer.
